Product Overview

Electric Resistance Welded pipe is produced by cold-forming a flat steel strip into a cylindrical shape and passing a high-frequency electrical current through the edges to heat and fuse them together. This manufacturing process delivers consistent wall thickness, excellent dimensional accuracy, and cost efficiency compared to seamless pipe for low-to-medium pressure applications.

Weld Quality Requirements

All ERW pipe undergoes 100% hydrostatic testing per standard requirements. API 5L pipe receives additional non-destructive testing (NDT) including ultrasonic inspection of the weld seam and eddy current testing for surface defects. Weld flash is removed internally and externally to specified tolerances.

Quality Assurance

  1. Incoming Material Inspection: Chemical composition verification and dimensional checks on steel strip
  2. In-Process Control: Real-time monitoring of forming parameters, welding current, and seam alignment
  3. Dimensional Inspection: OD, wall thickness, length, straightness, and squareness of cut ends
  4. Mechanical Testing: Tensile test, flattening test, bend test on sample pipes per heat/lot
  5. Hydrostatic Testing: 100% pressure testing to standard-specified test pressure
  6. NDT Inspection: Ultrasonic and eddy current testing per API 5L and customer requirements
  7. Final Inspection: Visual inspection, marking verification, and coating thickness measurement

All shipments include EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates documenting chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional test results, and hydrostatic test pressure.
