A572 Steel Plate
A572 steel plate is a high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) structural steel plate specified under ASTM A572. It is widely used in bridges, buildings, and heavy machinery where weight reduction and higher load capacity are critical. Product Overview
ASTM A572 covers five grades of HSLA steel plates with yield strengths ranging from 290 MPa (Grade 42) to 450 MPa (Grade 65). Grade 50 is the most commonly ordered due to its optimal balance of strength, weldability, and cost. The addition of columbium, vanadium, or nitrogen provides enhanced strength without proportional increases in weight.

Weldability and Processing
A572 plates are weldable using conventional arc welding methods. Preheating is recommended for thick sections (> 25 mm) to prevent hydrogen-induced cracking. All grades can be thermo-mechanically rolled or normalized.

Packing and Shipping
Plates are stacked on wooden pallets, bundled with steel straps, and wrapped in waterproof kraft paper. Edge protectors are installed for thick plates. Marking includes ASTM grade, heat number, dimensions, and weight per bundle.
