Carbon steel threaded rod (also called all-thread, threaded bar, or stud) is a long bar threaded continuously along its full length, typically to unified UNC/UNF or metric ISO thread standards. Used with nuts and washers for hanging, anchoring, bracing, and fastening in construction, electrical, and mechanical trades, threaded rod is one of the highest-volume fastener stock items in global trade. Manufacturing Standards
- Thread rolling (preferred): cold-rolled threads between dies — work-hardened, stronger than cut threads, smooth flank finish, superior fatigue performance.
- Thread cutting: for large diameters or small batches; removes material, slightly lower fatigue strength.
- Bar feedstock: 1018/1022 (Grade 2/4.6), 1045 or 40Cr alloy (Gr 5/8.8) with quench-and-temper for high-strength classes.
- Thread gauging: Go/No-Go ring and plug gauges per lot; nut assembly verification.
