Mechanical Properties & Dimensional Tolerances
ASTM A36 plate supplied by Huaxia Steel meets the ASTM A36 / A36M specification: minimum yield strength 250 MPa (36 ksi) for thicknesses up to 200 mm, tensile strength 400 – 550 MPa (58 – 80 ksi), minimum elongation 23% in 200 mm (20% in 50 mm). The chemistry allows a carbon-equivalent up to 0.45% depending on thickness, with Mn typically 0.80 – 1.20% for through-thickness ductility. For plate above 50 mm, request the supplementary requirement S5 (Charpy V-notch impact test at +20 °C ≥ 34 J) for critical welded applications; this is a low-cost addition that gives you confidence in through-thickness toughness.
Thickness tolerance follows ASTM A6 / A6M Table 1: ± 0.30 mm for thickness ≤ 6 mm, ± 0.45 mm for 6 – 12 mm, ± 0.60 mm for 12 – 25 mm, and ± 0.80 mm for 25 – 50 mm. Width and length tolerances are ± 6 mm / ± 10 mm for standard mill plate. Flatness tolerance is the ASTM A6 “regular flatness” by default (8 mm over 1.5 m length) or the optional “special flatness” (4 mm over 1.5 m) for an extra 2 – 3% premium. Camber and out-of-square are within 0.2% of the length and 6 mm max respectively.
