Product Overview
API 5L X60 is a micro-alloyed, controlled-rolled line pipe steel. The minimum specified yield strength is 60,000 psi (414 MPa) at room temperature. Compared to X52, X60 allows approximately 15% higher operating pressure at the same wall thickness, or 12–15% thinner wall at the same pressure — a meaningful saving when shipping thousands of tonnes of pipe across oceans.
X60 is commonly used in:

Micro-alloying with Nb, V, and Ti (alone or in combination) is standard for X60 to achieve the required strength without excessive carbon. This improves weldability and lowers CE.

For subsea or arctic pipelines, drop-weight tear test (DWTT) at -20 °C must show ≥ 85% shear area. This is a separate test from Charpy and is mandatory for many offshore projects.
