Product Overview
Carbon steel welded pipe is manufactured by rolling carbon steel strip or plate into a cylindrical shape and joining the edges by electric resistance welding (ERW), submerged arc welding (LSAW/SSAW), or high-frequency induction welding. It is the most common form of structural and pressure carbon steel pipe because it offers a strong, cost-effective alternative to seamless pipe for many applications. Manufacturing Standards
- ERW (electric resistance welding): strip is cold-formed and welded by resistance heating; typical for OD up to 24″ and wall up to 12 mm.
- LSAW (longitudinal SAW): plate is pressed into a U-O shape and welded from the inside and outside; used for large-diameter, thick-wall pipe.
- SSAW (spiral SAW): coiled plate is formed into a spiral and welded; used for piling and water transmission in large diameters.
- HFI (high-frequency induction): similar to ERW but uses induction heating; common in API 5L pipe mills.
