AH36 belongs to the high-strength hull structural steel family in the classification society rules (equivalents: GL A36, CCS A36, KR A36; European call-out often written as A36 per EN 10163 delivery condition). The designation breaks down as: A = impact test at 0 °C (not to be confused with ASTM A36), 36 = 36 kgf/mm² class (≈355 MPa minimum yield), with additional Z15/Z25/Z35 designations for through-thickness ductility when the plate is subject to lamellar tearing loads.
