Carbon Steel Tee — Factory Direct Supplier | Huaxia-Steel

Huaxia-Steel supplies carbon steel tees for pipeline branching applications across oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, and water infrastructure sectors. Manufactured to ASME B16.9, ASTM A234 WPB, and EN 10253-1 standards, our tees are available as equal tees (all outlets same diameter) and reducing tees (branch smaller than run) with sizes from 1/2 inch to 48 inches. We offer both seamless and welded construction, full material traceability, and factory-direct pricing with global shipping capability.

Product Overview

A pipe tee is a T-shaped fitting with three openings used to combine or divide fluid flow in a piping system. The straight-through portion is called the “run” (with two openings), while the perpendicular outlet is the “branch.” Equal tees have identical run and branch diameters, while reducing tees feature a branch diameter smaller than the run — essential when connecting a smaller service line to a larger main pipeline.

Carbon steel tees in ASTM A234 WPB grade withstand temperatures up to 425°C in continuous service and are compatible with all standard welding procedures. The wrought construction provides grain flow patterns that enhance mechanical integrity compared to cast fittings, making WPB tees the preferred choice for pressure piping systems.

Manufacturing Process

Seamless Equal Tees (Hydroforming / Extrusion)

Seamless tees up to 24 inches are produced by hydroforming or extrusion from solid steel billets. The process involves heating a cylindrical billet to forging temperature, placing it in a die cavity, and applying hydraulic pressure to expand the material into the T-shape. This method produces uniform wall thickness with superior mechanical properties and no weld seams in critical areas.

Welded Tees (Plate Fabrication)

Larger tees or reducing tees with significant diameter ratios are fabricated from steel plate. The run pipe is prepared with a branch opening, and a branch stub is welded in place using full-penetration welds. All welds are stress-relieved when required by code and inspected by RT or UT per ASME B16.9 and ASME Section IX.

Reducing Tee Manufacturing

Reducing tees require more complex tooling due to the diameter transition. Small branch reducing tees are often produced by cold or hot forming from larger equal tees. Large reducing tees are fabricated by welding a formed branch piece to the run pipe, with reinforcement pads added when required by design code for pressure containment.

Applications

Equal Tee vs. Reducing Tee Selection

Application Recommended Type Reasoning
Main pipeline with same-size branch Equal tee Equal flow division; standard specification
Main line to smaller service line Reducing tee Matches pipe sizes; avoids additional reducer
Pump suction from header Reducing tee (eccentric branch) Maintains flat top; prevents air pocket
Instrument connection Reducing tee Small branch for probe or gauge
Fire zone isolation Equal tee Same pipe size for consistent flow/pressure

Surface Treatment Options

Treatment Specification Application
Black (oiled) Standard mill finish Indoor; painted later
Shot-blasted + primer SA 2.5, epoxy zinc primer Offshore; corrosive atmosphere
Hot-dip galvanized ASTM A153, ≥ 600 g/m² Water lines; atmospheric exposure
3LPE DIN 30670 Buried pipelines
FBE internal/external AWWA C213 Corrosive fluid service

Quality Assurance

Huaxia-Steel implements comprehensive quality control for every tee:

  1. Incoming Material Control: PMI testing on steel billets/plate; chemical composition verification
  2. Dimensional Control: C and M dimensions, wall thickness at crotch and extruded areas, ovality, bevel angle
  3. Mechanical Testing: Tensile test, hardness test (HBW or HRB), flattening test on sample pieces per heat
  4. NDT Inspection:
    • Ultrasonic testing (UT) on all seamless tees
    • Radiographic testing (RT) on welded tees — 100% of circumferential welds
    • Magnetic particle testing (MT) or liquid penetrant testing (PT) for surface defects
  5. Hydrostatic Testing: Optional; conducted at 1.5× design pressure when specified
  6. Final Inspection: Visual examination per MSS SP-54 acceptance criteria; marking verification

All orders ship with EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate, NDE test reports, and dimensional inspection certificates.
