Galvanized Steel Wire — Factory Direct Supplier | Huaxia-Steel
Huaxia-Steel manufactures and exports galvanized steel wire from 0.5 to 4.5 mm diameter, hot-dip zinc-coated in-house from rod-grade feedstock with zinc coating weights from 30 to 366 g/m². We supply binding wire, fencing wire, gabion wire, nail wire and U-nail stock to distributors, fence manufacturers and construction projects worldwide — with EN 10204 3.1 certificates, third-party inspection on request, and factory-direct pricing from monthly production of 3,000+ tonnes.
Product Overview
Galvanized steel wire is low-carbon wire rod (Q195/Q235, SAE 1006–1018 class) that is drawn to size, annealed where ductility requires, and hot-dip galvanized with a zinc layer that protects the steel substrate sacrificially — the zinc corrodes preferentially, so small scratches in the coating do not rust the wire. The combination of low cost, easy workability and 5–20 year outdoor life makes galvanized wire the default choice for binding, fencing, gabions, and general construction reinforcement worldwide.
We control the full route in-house: rod inspection → drawing → (annealing) → degreasing and pickling → fluxing → hot-dip galvanizing → spooling. In-house galvanizing is the quality difference: wire bought from trading houses that outsource coating frequently shows zinc adhesion failures — flaking when the wire is bent during fence weaving — because the flux bath and temperature profile were not controlled. Our coating meets EN 10244-2 Class A/B or ASTM A641 Z2/Z3 requirements, verified by the gravimetric test on every production lot.

Coating class selection drives outdoor life: Class A (≈50–100 g/m² by diameter) suits indoor binding and short-term use; Class B (≈100–200 g/m²) is the general fencing standard; Class C/D (up to 366 g/m²) serves gabions, marine-adjacent fencing and multi-decade installations. For severely corrosive sites we also offer a Zn-Al (Galfan-type) coating option — quote on request with the same diameter range.

Packaging and Shipping
Standard export packaging: coils wrapped in woven bags or hessian; small spools (25/50 kg) carton-packed on pallets; large coils (200–500 kg) strapped on steel or wooden pallets, wrapped in stretch film with waterproof lining for container transit. Custom branding (printed bags, private-label spools) available from 5 t per size. Loading: 25–27 t per 20 ft container depending on coil format; coil-count and weight packing lists provided per container. Common HS Code: 7217.20 (galvanized iron/steel wire, not plated with precious metal).

Price Factors and Quotation Checklist
Galvanized wire pricing moves with four levers, and knowing them makes your RFQ faster and your comparison honest. Coating class is the biggest: zinc is the cost driver, and a Class C (heavy) coating can add 15–25% over Class A at the same diameter. Tensile class matters second — hard-drawn high-tensile wire carries a premium over soft annealed because of extra drawing passes. Coil format affects both price and freight: small 25 kg spools cost more per tonne than 200 kg coils but save you labor downstream. Zinc price itself moves the market — LME zinc swings flow into coating surcharges, so quotes over 30 days old are stale quotes.
For an accurate first quotation, tell us: diameter(s), coating class (or application, and we will recommend one), tensile class, coil weight and packaging format, monthly volume, and destination port. We will quote FOB/CIF with a validity period tied to the zinc market and confirm the certificate package (coating mass, tensile, adhesion per lot).
What is the difference between electro-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized wire?
Electro-galvanizing deposits a thin, uniform zinc layer (typically 10–30 g/m²) — smooth and bright but short-lived outdoors. Hot-dip galvanizing builds 30–366 g/m² with a zinc-iron alloy layer bonded to the substrate — the standard for any outdoor or construction use. All Huaxia-Steel wire is hot-dip galvanized; we do not supply electro-galvanized product for structural applications.
Which coating class should I choose for gabions in a coastal area?
Class C (heavy zinc, 240–366 g/m² by diameter) is the minimum for coastal or industrial atmospheres; for direct salt spray or long design life, specify Zn-Al (Galfan-type) coating, which delivers 2–4× the corrosion life of pure zinc at the same mass. Confirm with the gabion mesh weaver that the coating class matches their twisting equipment — heavy coatings need correspondingly sized tooling.
Can you supply mixed diameters and coil types in one container?
Yes — mixed-size containers are standard practice for us. A typical 20 ft container combines 2–5 diameters across soft and hard classes with per-coil labels and a packing list keyed to your warehouse locations. Minimum practical volume is about 2 t per diameter to keep winding setups efficient.
Selection Guide by Application
| Application | Recommended diameter | Coating class | Tensile class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rebar tying | 0.9 – 1.6 mm | Class A | Soft |
| Chain-link fence weaving | 2.0 – 4.0 mm | Class B | Soft–medium |
| Gabion baskets | 2.0 – 3.9 mm | Class C / Zn-Al | Medium |
| Nail manufacturing | 1.8 – 4.5 mm | Class A–B | Hard |
| Baling (mills/recycling) | 1.6 – 2.5 mm | Class A | Soft |
| Barbed wire | 1.4 – 2.8 mm | Class B | Hard |
Ordering Process and Lead Time
Standard workflow: send your specification list → we return a quotation with certificate samples within 48 hours → order confirmation and production slot → production with lot testing → pre-shipment inspection (our QC report, third-party optional) → shipment with documents (invoice, packing list, MTCs, certificate of origin). Standard sizes ship in 15–25 days; new diameters or special coil formats add 5–10 days for tooling. Sample coils for machine trials ship by courier within a week of specification — we recommend trials for automatic mesh and nail lines before the first volume order.
Corrosion performance in service is what repays careful coating selection. Hot-dip galvanized wire exposed to a rural atmosphere loses roughly 1–2 microns of zinc per year; urban-industrial atmospheres run 2–4 microns; marine exposure 4–8. With a Class B coating delivering 40–60 microns of zinc on typical diameters, the arithmetic gives the widely observed field life: 10–15 years rural, 5–10 urban, 3–7 coastal. Match the class to the site, not to the catalog photograph, and the wire outlives the fence it carries.
