What is Carbon Steel Angle?

Carbon steel angles are L-shaped structural steel profiles with two legs either equal or unequal in width. They are the most widely used structural steel section due to their excellent load-bearing capacity, easy fabrication, and cost-effectiveness. Huaxia Steel supplies both equal angles and unequal angles in hot-rolled and galvanized finishes, conforming to ASTM A36, EN 10025, JIS G3101, and GB/T 706 standards for construction, infrastructure, shipbuilding, and machinery applications worldwide.

Need Carbon Steel Angles for Your Project?

We offer equal and unequal angles in all standard sizes, with hot-rolled and galvanized finish options.

Manufacturing Process

Carbon steel angles are manufactured through hot rolling:

Heating: Steel billets are heated to 1050–1250°C in a reheating furnace.

Rolling: Heated billets pass through a series of rolling stands with specially shaped passes that progressively form the L-shaped cross-section. The process requires precise temperature control and pass design to ensure uniform leg dimensions and square corners.

Cooling & Straightening: After rolling, angles are air-cooled on cooling beds and then straightened using a roller straightener to meet straightness requirements (typically ≤2mm per meter).

Cutting & Finishing: Angles are cut to standard lengths (6m, 9m, 12m) by hot or cold shearing. Optional galvanizing, painting, or surface treatment can be applied per customer requirements.

Surface Finish & Treatment Options

Available surface treatments:
Hot Rolled (Black): Mill finish with oxide scale, most economical option
Hot-Dip Galvanized (HDG): Zinc coating (40–100 µm) for outdoor/corrosive environments
Painted/Coated: Anti-corrosion paint or powder coating per customer specification
Sandblasted: Surface preparation for welding or further coating
Pre-galvanized: Galvanized before forming for consistent coating coverage

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between equal and unequal angle?

Equal angles have two legs of identical width (e.g., 50×50mm), while unequal angles have two different leg widths (e.g., 75×50mm). Equal angles are used when symmetrical loading is expected, while unequal angles are preferred where one leg needs to be wider for connection or load distribution.

What sizes of steel angle are most commonly used?

The most common sizes are: 25×25mm (1”×1”), 40×40mm (1.5”×1.5”), 50×50mm (2”×2”), 63×63mm (2.5”×2.5”), 75×75mm (3”×3”), and 100×100mm (4”×4”). Thickness typically ranges from 3mm to 10mm for standard applications.

Can carbon steel angles be galvanized?

Yes. Hot-dip galvanizing is the most common corrosion protection for steel angles used outdoors. The standard zinc coating thickness is 40–100 µm. Galvanizing after fabrication is recommended for best coverage at cut edges and weld joints.

What is the standard length of steel angle?

Standard lengths are 6 meters, 9 meters, and 12 meters. Custom cut lengths are available from 1 meter upward. Huaxia Steel can supply angles cut to your exact length requirements.
