What is Carbon Steel Strip?
Carbon steel strips are narrow, thin flat-rolled steel products typically produced by precision slitting from wider coils. They offer tight width and thickness tolerances, making them ideal for stamping, roll forming, welded tube production, and precision component manufacturing. Huaxia Steel supplies carbon steel strips in hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and galvanized finishes, conforming to ASTM A109/A679, JIS G3141, EN 10139, and GB/T 3524 standards, serving the automotive, construction, hardware, and appliance industries globally.

Manufacturing Process
Carbon steel strips are produced through precision slitting from wider coils:
Uncoiling: Master coils (up to 2000mm wide) are loaded onto a precision decoiler and fed into the slitting line.
Slitting: Rotary slitting knives cut the wide coil into multiple narrow strips simultaneously. Blade clearance and speed are precisely controlled to produce clean, burr-free edges. Slitting width tolerance is typically ±0.05mm for cold-rolled strips.
Recoiling: Slit strips are individually recoiled onto separate mandrels, with automatic tension control to ensure consistent coil density and prevent telescoping.
Edge Treatment (Optional): Strip edges can be deburred, rounded, or skin-passed to meet specific edge quality requirements for downstream processing.
Surface Finish & Treatment Options
Available surface finishes:
– Hot Rolled, Mill Finish: Dark oxide surface for pipe/tube making
– Hot Rolled, Pickled & Oiled: Clean surface for visible applications
– Cold Rolled, Bright: Smooth, scale-free surface for stamping and forming
– Cold Rolled, Skin-passed: Improved flatness and surface quality
– Galvanized (GI): Zinc-coated for corrosion resistance (40–120 g/m²)
– Electro-galvanized (EG): Uniform thin zinc coating for precision parts
– Phosphate Coated: Improved lubricity for deep drawing and stamping

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between strip and sheet?
Strip is a narrow-width product (typically 10–600mm wide) supplied in coil form, produced by slitting wider coils. Sheet is a wider product (typically 600–2000mm) supplied as flat cut pieces. Strip is preferred for continuous processing (roll forming, stamping, tube making), while sheet is preferred for discrete fabrication and panel applications.
What does ‘precision slit’ mean?
Precision slitting refers to the process of cutting wide coils into narrow strips using rotary slitting knives with tight tolerances. Precision slit strips typically have width tolerances of ±0.05mm (cold-rolled) or ±0.5mm (hot-rolled), with clean, burr-free edges suitable for direct downstream processing without additional edge trimming.
Can you slit to custom widths?
Yes. Huaxia Steel offers custom slitting services. We can slit coils to widths as narrow as 10mm with tolerance of ±0.05mm. Minimum order quantity for custom slit widths depends on the total tonnage and number of strands—contact us for details.
What is edge deburring?
Deburring is the process of removing sharp edges created during slitting. Techniques include shaving (removing a thin strip of metal), edge rolling (folding the edge over), and rotary deburring (using abrasive wheels). Deburred edges prevent injury during handling and improve performance in downstream tube welding and roll forming operations.
