Carbon Steel Pipe Coupling — Factory Direct Supplier | Huaxia-Steel
Huaxia-Steel supplies carbon steel pipe couplings from 1/8" to 8" NPT, in full-coupling, half-coupling and reducing configurations, manufactured from ASTM A105 forgings and A106/A53 seamless pipe to ASTM A865 dimensions, with EN 10204 3.1 certification and matched galvanizing available. Couplings are the workhorse threaded fitting for joining two lengths of screwed pipe or attaching threaded equipment connections — simple, pressure-tight and field-repairable — and our machining tolerances and thread gauging are controlled so every coupling assembles with standard pipe wrench effort without thread damage.
Product Overview
A full coupling is a short cylinder with internal NPT threads over its entire length, joining two male-threaded pipe ends. Half couplings thread onto pipe at one end while the plain end is welded into vessels, manifolds and fabricated assemblies — the standard way to create a threaded outlet on a pipe or drum. Reducing couplings join two different pipe sizes in one fitting. Our couplings are machined from forged bar or seamless tube, stress-relieved after threading, and supplied black (plain), hot-dip galvanized or with special coatings. Pressure retention meets the ratings of the connected pipe class at ambient through moderate temperatures, and every batch is gauge-inspected 100 % for thread accuracy.

Diameters, thread engagement and length tolerances follow ASTM A865 for threaded couplings; half couplings carry a square-grooved or beveled plain end prepared for butt or socket welding per your fabrication standard. Threads are cut with a slight taper per NPT and sealed dry or with PTFE tape on assembly — we do not recommend thread compounds on galvanized lines where they can contaminate potable service.
Available Grades and Materials
- ASTM A105: forged carbon steel, the default for high-pressure threaded joints.
- A106 Gr B / A53 Gr B: seamless pipe couplings for standard process and mechanical lines.
- Galvanized assemblies: A153 Class C coating with overtapped threads for water and fire lines.
- Stainless and alloy couplings: A182 F304/F316, F11/F22 available through our fitting program.
Manufacturing Standards and Quality Assurance
Production flow: billet forging or seamless tube cropping → normalizing → rough machining → threading → stress relief → final gauging → coating. Thread inspection uses calibrated L1/L2/L3 NPT gauges with a documented gauge-control program; coating thickness is measured per ASTM A153 requirements and threads are checked for fit after galvanizing. Each lot ships with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate and, on request, a sample-thread replica report for your records.
Applications
- Threaded process and utility piping in chemical, oil and gas plants
- Half couplings welded into vessels, drums and manifolds as threaded outlets
- Fire protection, irrigation and water distribution systems (galvanized)
- Compressed air, hydraulic and lubrication lines on machinery packages
NPT Sealing and Assembly Practice
NPT threads seal by metal-to-metal interference on the flanks as the tapered threads engage — not by any sealing compound — so assembly practice determines leak-tightness more than the fitting itself. Engage the fitting hand-tight plus one to three turns with a wrench depending on size: over-tightening splits couplings and distorts female threads on thin-wall fittings, while under-tightening leaves the leak path open. Use thread sealant or PTFE tape applied in the direction of thread rotation, and never combine tape with hardening compounds on the same joint. After galvanizing, threads must be chased with a calibrated die if the coating has flooded the roots — our galvanized couplings are overtapped before coating precisely to avoid that field rework. For sizes above NPS 2 on vibrating lines, most piping practices move to socket-weld or flanged connections; threaded joints that large are best reserved for low-vibration utility service.
Packaging and Delivery
Couplings are boxed in 25–50 kg cartons with thread protectors or foam layer separation, then palletized and stretch-wrapped with desiccant for sea freight. Galvanized lots are packed separately to avoid black-lot contact staining. Standard sizes ship from stock in 3–5 days; galvanized and reducing specials in 10–15 days.
