ER70S-6 Carbon Steel Welding Wire — Factory Direct Supplier | Huaxia-Steel
Huaxia-Steel supplies ER70S-6 carbon steel welding wire in 0.8–1.6 mm diameters on 5 kg, 15 kg, and 350–500 kg spools and drums, with copper-coated or copper-free finishes, certified to AWS A5.18 / EN ISO 14341-A and backed by full batch test reports. As the workhorse MIG/MAG wire for structural steel, pipe fabrication, and general manufacturing, ER70S-6 delivers reliable welds on slightly rusty or mill-scaled plate thanks to its elevated deoxidizer content — which is exactly why it dominates global consumable volume.
Product Overview
ER70S-6 is a copper-coated solid wire with higher manganese (1.40–1.85%) and silicon (0.80–1.15%) than ER70S-3, giving it stronger deoxidizing power. That chemistry pulls oxygen and contaminants out of the weld pool, so it tolerates surface oxides that would cause porosity with cleaner-chemistry wires, and it produces higher tensile and yield strength deposits with good bead appearance. The wire is drawn to tight diameter tolerance, coated for contact-tip current transfer and corrosion protection during storage, and spooled with controlled cast and helix so the wire feeds straight at high duty cycles on robotic lines.

Short-circuit transfer below ~200 A suits sheet metal and root passes; globular transfer occurs with pure CO₂ in the mid-range; spray transfer above ~24 V with argon-rich gas suits downhand heavy sections. For robotic and tandem lines, we recommend the 1.0 mm diameter — the best balance of feed stability, deposition rate, and tip life.
Manufacturing Standards and Quality Control
Wire is produced from low-residual rod, drawn in multiple passes, and inspected per AWS A5.18 and ISO 544. Batch controls include: chemistry analysis per heat and per drawn lot, diameter run-out measurement, tensile test of the wire itself, cast and helix measurement, coating weight (copper 0.05–0.25 µm typical), and all-weld-metal test joints with tension and Charpy results reported per batch. Every spool carries batch identification that maps to the test certificate; drums carry the same traceability on the drum label and inner liner. Our wire feeds on mils-class robotic lines at 98%+ arc-on stability in customer trials, and we welcome sample spools for your qualification before bulk orders.
Applications
- Structural steel fabrication (S235–S355, A36, A572) for buildings and bridges
- Welded beam, H-section and box girder production lines
- Automotive, trailer and axle manufacturing with robotic cells
- Shipbuilding panel lines and pipe fabrication shops
- General repair and maintenance on carbon steel equipment
Packing, Storage and Shipping
Spools are shrink-wrapped with desiccant options for humid climates, packed 4 spools per carton on export pallets; 15 kg spools ship 2 per carton; drums are lined and palletized with feeding kits available. Store wire in dry areas below 60% relative humidity; once opened, keep spools in plastic wrap and use within weeks in humid environments. Standard export packing withstands ocean freight, and moisture indicator cards can be included on request.
