Carbon Steel I-Beam

Product Overview

Carbon steel I-beam (also called H-beam, universal beam, or rolled steel joist) is the primary load-bearing structural section in steel-framed buildings, bridges, industrial platforms, and heavy machinery. Its distinctive “I” cross-section — with two parallel flanges connected by a vertical web — provides optimal bending resistance per kilogram of steel, making I-beams the most structurally efficient hot-rolled section available.

Huaxia-Steel supplies carbon steel I-beams in heights from 100mm to 900mm, conforming to IPE (European), IPN (European tapered flange), HE (European wide flange), ASTM A6 (American Standard), and JIS G3192 (Japanese) profile standards. All beams are produced from fully killed, fine-grain carbon steel with complete mill certification.

Manufacturing Process and Dimensional Tolerances

Carbon steel I-beams are produced on specialized section mills using grooved rolls that shape the beam profile from a continuously cast beam blank or bloom. The process involves:

  1. Reheating: Beam blank heated to 1,200–1,250°C in walking-beam furnace
  2. Breakdown rolling: Rough shaping through reversing breakdown mill
  3. Intermediate rolling: Progressive section reduction through tandem stands
  4. Finish rolling: Final pass achieving exact profile dimensions at 850–900°C
  5. Hot saw cutting: Cut to ordered length while still hot
  6. Cooling: Controlled air cooling on roller table cooling bed
  7. Straightening: Roller straightening (7–11 rolls) for camber and sweep control

Tolerances per EN 10034: Height ±2.0mm for sections ≤180mm, ±3.0mm for 180–400mm. Flange width ±2.0mm. Web thickness ±1.0mm for sections ≤220mm. Camber: 0.15% of length maximum.

Common Applications

Quality Assurance

Each shipment of I-beams from Huaxia-Steel includes comprehensive quality documentation:

Packaging and Shipping

I-beams are bundled by profile and length in compact stacks. For single-size orders, beams are nested to maximize space efficiency in containers or vessel holds. Packaging details:

Transport: Containerized (20ft/40ft) for lengths up to 11.8m; breakbulk or flat-rack containers for lengths exceeding 12m. We handle all export documentation including certificate of origin, fumigation certificate, and bill of lading.
