Is S275JR stronger than A36?

S275JR has a slightly higher minimum yield strength (275 MPa vs 250 MPa). In practice, both grades typically yield 280-320 MPa in production, so the difference is negligible for most applications. The structural design codes (AISC for A36, Eurocode 3 for S275JR) account for these differences.

Which grade welds better?
