Product Overview
ASTM A105 is the standard specification for carbon steel forgings for piping applications. The grade is killed steel, fully deoxidized, with a carbon content that delivers excellent forgeability and weldability. Forged fittings are produced by hot forging billets into near-net-shape blanks, followed by machining to final dimensions.
Because forging refines grain flow and eliminates internal porosity, ASTM A105 fittings outperform cast equivalents in pressure containment and fatigue resistance.

Heat Treatment
ASTM A105 fittings are supplied in the as-forged condition unless otherwise specified. Optional heat treatments include:
- Normalizing: Refines grain structure, improves toughness; mandatory for fittings over 4 inches or when specified by purchaser
- Quench and temper: For higher strength requirements; not standard for A105 but available on request
- Stress relieving: Recommended after welding or machining to reduce residual stresses
